About Us

Fueling Inspiration through Youth Alliance or F.I.Y.A. is the youth department of Pleasant Mount Gilead Baptist Church and is charged with equipping our young Christians through engagement and interaction. Proverbs 22:6 says that if you “Point your kids in the right direction— when they’re old they won’t be lost (MSG), and through our F.I.Y.A. ministry it is our goal to point our youth in the direction of Jesus Christ in a way that is both relevant and practical.

Our Teaching Approach


Bible Story Telling

Teaching them to confidently express how everyone’s lives relate to the stories and parables told throughout the Bible.

Bible Memory Work

Equipping them for the challenges of life and the work of ministry by teaching them to internalize the scriptures.

Bible Sword Drill

Providing them with an knowledge of the Bible’s structure and helping them to understand how to search the scriptures.

Extemporaneous Speaking

Preparing them to use their knowledge of the Bible and life experiences to teach others about Jesus Christ using various topics as a springboard.

Bible Story Telling

Purpose: To relate at an early age bible parables through stories from the Bible. 

Eligibility: Boys and girls from 3 years to 8 years may participate. Participants must be age 3 before April 1 and must not be age 9 before April 1. The group is divided into two divisions 3 to 5 years and 6 to 8 years.

Bible Memory Work

Purpose: To encourage all juniors to memorize scriptures verbatim. These children are passing through the “golden Memory Period,” therefore; we should train them to memorize God’s Word. 

Eligibility: Boys and girls from 9 to 12 years may participate. They are divided into two groups 9 and 10 years and 11 to 12 years. Participants must be 9 years old before April 1, and must not be age 13 before April 1. The group is divided into two divisions 3 to 5 years and 6 to 8 years.

Bible Sword Drill

Purpose: The purpose of the Baptist Intermediate Sword Drill is to encourage intermediate boys and girls to develop skills in handling the Word of God. Ever intermediate should be trained to use the Bible more effectively and to read the scripture verses clearly and intelligently. 

Eligibility: Boys and girls from age 13 years of age to 16 may participate. Participants must be 13 years old before April 1, and must not be age 17 before April 1.

Extemporaneous Speaking

Purpose: To be able to stand and speak boldly for Christ in all situations. 

Eligibility: Those from age 17 to 24 are eligible. Participants must be 17 years old before April 1, and must not be age 25 before April 1. Youth ministers are ineligible, not because of age, but because of experience.
